An update on my beloved's cancer

We are now out over a year since she first began to have symptoms. We know that many with her type of cancer and the fact that it had spread don't survive as long as she has. Thank God she has been able to watch both of her daughters graduate from college in this year. It has been hard on her and I have prayed asking that she not suffer. The chemo takes a toll on the body and she had to stop the first chemo. She is now in a clinical trial with two chemo agents in combination. The newer drug prevents the cancer cells from protecting themselves from the older drug. She has incredible faith and our church is very supportive in this time. Most recently she has been able to be up and doing more on some days, but the next day has to rest. Me, I am supportive as I can be. I am not so sure my faith matches up to hers. I have been reading "Jesus Freaks", about martyrs of the church yesterday and today. I am in awe of those who have gone before me and in many cases accepted death rather than deny their faith. I am afraid that I might not be as strong as some of them. Well, what does this have to do with my beloved's cancer? Her faith in the face of pain and suffering is an inspiration to me. We believe that healing is in the redemption. Thus we are trusting for a total and complete healing from the cancer. That is hard sometimes in the face of CT scans which show some tumor growth. We being Registered Nurses sometimes have too much knowledge and that can get in the way of faith I think. I am not saying people should be ignorant, I'm just saying that our natural knowledge can get in the way of believing for the supernatural. The super natural says of God's children, He (Jesus) bore our sickness, and by His stripes we are healed.

Get Out of the Seat of the Scornful

Was reading Psalm 1 as part of my morning devotional, paying attention to the poetic part of the Psalm. As my Bible commentary says the Psalms were written in Hebrew poetry style. I noted that the first and last verses of the Psalm compare and contrast the redeemed and the unredeemed. I also found the warnings to the redeemed to not progress through the counsel of the ungodly (the ungodly world view as it were), stand in the path of sinners (kind of getting comfortable with or "dipping your toes" in sinful ways), nor sitting in the seat of the scornful. The last is where much of our world is today. Commentators are all over the place being scornful of others or ideas they don't like, unfortunately many in the Church have fallen into this in response to attacks from outside the church. I must confess that I have been there too, so I'm pointing the finger at myself when I say get out of the seat of the scornful. I'm not saying we shouldn't disagree or shouldn't push back at those who are trying to tear the church down. I suppose we should look to Nehemiah and Sanballat for an example of how to respond to those who are truly trying to tear the Church of Christ down. There is a non-scornful way to stand in the path of Godliness. More on that later.
